Roots of Flight: Environmental Refugees in Latin America - A Response to Analysis by Homer-Dixon

Abstract

nequalities between the countries of the North and South have grown steadily since colonial times. Economic policies imposed by the North are the main cause. This article attempts to demonstrate that demographic growth and dwindling resources are not the main drivers of refugee movements and conflicts in Third World countries, particularly in Latin America. Rather, they are linked to land policies dictated by local elites, foreign collaborators and global economic policies based essentially on Western interests.
